Fire at the Grand-Largue boatbuilding site

On the evening of Wednesday 2 July, a serious fire completely destroyed my partner Grand-Largue’s boatyard. The fire started in a neighbouring business and spread rapidly, requiring the intervention of more than 50 firefighters. Only the boats on the foreshore and the launching equipment were spared.

This is a significant setback for this boatbuilder, renowned for its construction of traditionally inspired wood-epoxy boats. Pierre-Yves de la Rivière and his team are determined to rebuild their facilities to ensure that the boats entrusted to them can be winterised and to resume production as soon as possible in temporary premises.

I extend my sympathy and heartfelt encouragement to them.

    Nobody was injured.
From September 1st, a temporary building, located nearby, will allow Grand-Largue to resume work.

So unfortunate for Yves and his crew. I hope everyone is OK.
