Skol ar Mor boatbuilding school: boats launching August 2026
As it does every year, at the end of July, the Skol ar Mor traditional shipbuilding school launched the boats built over the course of the year in the small harbour of Kercabellec, France. A large crowd gathered to watch the successive launches of six boats:
- A 5-metre Whitehall based on an American design, named Le Chat.
- A 3-metre pram based on a design by Thomas Estève (a trainer at Skol ar Mor) named Le Saint-Jo.
- A Creizic (VivierBoats design) built using traditional clinker-planking named Ilder.
- A Trého, a new 5.35-metre VivierBoats design, which was built with a cold moulded hull, to serve as the architect’s personal boat and named Petit-Trého.
- Tofinou, the original wooden boat from 1929 which subsequently gave rise to a GRP production boat, rebuilt by Skol ar Mor. Sail plan, drawings of the wooden spars and fittings by VivierBoats.
- And finally, a 7.4-metre-long Mediterranean pointu named Patricia 2, rebuilt for the Aventure Pluriel association.
These last two boats were the subject of photogrammetric surveys carried out by Bernard Ficatier (Scanmar association), followed by hull form drawings produced by myself (VivierBoats).
Following their launches, the boats set sail with the trainees who had built them on board. Congratulation for all.
